Professional Qualifications

There are three ways to achieve Certified Financial Accountant certification:

  • Academic
  • Accreditation of Prior Learning
  • Recognition of Qualifications

 

Academic

Applicants are required to complete the following courses at a recognized post-secondary institution:

  • Micro Economics
  • Macro Economics
  • Quantitative Methods
  • Business Law
  • Business Communications
  • Management Info Systems
  • Financial Management
  • Financial Accounting 1
  • Financial Accounting 2
  • Financial Accounting 3
  • Management Accounting 1
  • Management Accounting 2
  • Accounting Theory
  • Personal and Corporate Taxation
  • External Auditing

Applicants are also required to have three years of relevant and supervised work experience in Accounting.

Accreditation of Prior Learning

Assessment of prior learning and experience has been used in the education sector and the business world for many years. The recognition of experience and formal training is an important process which the Society acknowledges. If you are interested in Certification via this route check mark an appropriate section of Membership Application. The Society will review and assess the application to ensure it is authentic, current, relevant and sufficient. Applicants are also required to have at least five years of relevant and supervised work experience in Accounting.

Recognition of Qualifications

If you currently hold a relevant qualification from a recognized professional accountancy body, you may be eligible for exemptions from some or all of the Society's examinations.
